In anticipation of the awarding ceremony of the campaign “Our Search for the Best Nurse”, conducted by Rietumu Bank Charity Fund, the leading Latvian newspaper Diena published an interview with the Chairperson of the Fund Inga Shina.

In her interview to the Diena journalist Baiba Krastina, the Head of the Fund talked about the current campaign, forthcoming plans, and also shared her opinion on what can be improved to develop this important profession.

According to Inga Shina, the campaign “Our Search for the Best Nurse” is one of the longstanding projects of Rietumu Bank Charity Fund. Over the course of time, the campaign has become increasingly more popular, and more people are aware of it and looking forward to it. “It means that the idea that originated more than a decade ago has been successfully implemented in practice - the campaign has become a part of our life, and a necessary and expected event.”

The  Chairperson of the Board of the Fund said that children and their parents are increasingly more actively participating in voting for their best nurse, in this way striving to express their gratitude to the nurses who undoubtedly deserve it.

“Since the time we started this campaign, a lot has changed for the better in our healthcare, and the work of nurses is also valued more highly. And we are happy that, on our part, we have also been able to affect these positive processes,” said Inga Shina.

However, there is still a lot to be done. The Head of the Fund thinks that it is absolutely necessary to provide nurses with wider opportunities for their professional growth, for receiving new knowledge and applying it in practice. To achieve this, new technologies must be introduced more actively to facilitate and minimise the routine work and, at the same time, allow the upgrading of one’s qualification and open new career prospects.

“I think that a lot must still be done to further increase the social prestige of the important profession of a nurse and to introduce a system of material remuneration that corresponds to such qualified labour,” emphasised Inga Shina.

Let us remind you that this year the campaign “Our Search for the Best Nurse” was conducted in the Children’s Clinical University Hospital, which is the leading institution in the field of children’s healthcare in Latvia. The awarding ceremony for winners of this campaign will take place on 31 January.
