Continuing the long-term tradition, and with the campaign’s patroness Andra Levite visiting Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, campaign “Our Search for the Best Nurse” was started on February 2.

The campaign is held for the 13th consecutive year. Its goal is to honour Latvia’s medical nurses, demonstrate the significance of their profession, express public appreciation, and attract public attention to the everyday work of nurses. Nurses play a huge role in care for patients, and, unfortunately, it is known that there is a shortage of nurses in Latvia’s medical system.

The organizer of the campaign is Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds (Future Supporting Fund) charity fund, established by Rietumu Bank.

Chairman of the board of Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds Inga Shina notes: “It is a joy to open the long-term campaign ”Our Search for the Best Nurse”. It is one of the most significant and heart-felt projects for me personally. Nurses are conducting a very important job, the treatment process cannot be imagined without them. At the same time, unfortunately, their work has not been appreciated and rewarded enough. There is a shortage of nurses in Latvia, and it is a problem that has not been solved for years. With this project we wish to provide our support, attract attention and say a sincere thank-you for the work every Latvian nurse is doing, at the same time, honouring the nurses on whom we have received the largest number of applications. We thank everyone who is doing their job with respect to each other and with the biggest responsibility!”

This year, the campaign will be held at Riga East Clinical University Hospital, Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital and Children’s Clinical University Hospital. Every current or former hospital patient or relatives of patients, as well as colleagues at the hospital are invited to submit their applications, filling in the questionnaire. This can be done from February 3 until March 15 electronically or by e-mail: [email protected].

The nurses who will receive the biggest number of applications, at the end of March will be honoured at the reception with the Latvian president at the Riga Castle. This year 18 nurses will be awarded, and each of them will receive a monetary premium from the Future Support Fund worth EUR 1,000, including taxes.
