Jelena Buraja to speak at the ACAMS forum in New York

Rietumu Bank's Chairman of the Board Jelena Buraja will make a presentation at an international forum in New York dedicated to preventing financial crime risks. The conference is organised by the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

ACAMS is the largest international organisation dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and expertise of professionals in the detection and prevention of financial crime in both the public and private sectors.

The main theme of this forum, to be held in New York on 27 October, will be preventing the risks of financial crime connected to shelf companies. This becomes even more significant in the context of recent geopolitical developments, new processes and threats to global economy, as well as on Russia imposed sanction evasion risks.

In her speech Jelena Buraja will share Rietumu Bank successful experience in financial crime preventing, especially gained in the last few years during national financial sector transformation period.

“The improvements in the banking system in recent years has significantly transformed Latvia's financial sector and brought it to a new quality level. Rietumu Bank has been actively involved in this process from the very beginning and has been positively evaluated by its international partners. We have introduced the latest practices and technologies in risk management, in short time period made considerable progress in this field and continue to maintain a clear focus on this area. I believe that our experience and acquired knowledge will be useful to many participants of the global financial market,” says Jelena Buraja.

The forum will also address topical issues of interbank cooperation as a result of the military conflict in Ukraine, the risks involved and technologies to counter them. International experts will present a special case study and recommendations to further improve the practices of financial institutions in shelf companies identifying.

For Chairman of the Board of Rietumu Bank this will be the second business trip to the USA this year. In May, Jelena Buraja visited the U.S. Department of the Treasury and had a number of important meetings in Washington and New York, including those with members of the U.S. Congress. The invitation to participate in the ACAMS forum was a logical continuation of Rietumu Bank's head successful spring visit to the US.
