With the Support of Rietumu Bank, “Golden Mask in Latvia” Will be Held
13-Apr-2018, 13:17 / Charity & Sponsorship Yesterday the programme of the Russian theatrical festival “Golden Mask in Latvia” was announced. The festival will be held in autumn-winter of 2018.
The general partner of the festival for 13 successive years has invariably been Rietumu Bank.
Organisers of Golden Mask emphasise that this festival will be special - similarly to the entire theatrical and concert season of the country, it will be held in honour of celebrating the 100th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Latvia.
Nine performances, which have received special recognition from the jury of the Russian National Theatrical Award “Golden Mask” and members of the expert council of the “Golden Mask in Latvia”, are included into the festival programme.
As the Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising of Rietumu Bank Sergey Grodnikov said at the press conference devoted to the announcement of the festival programme, “Golden Mask in Latvia” is undoubtedly the auteur festival. Its programme is prepared with the direct participation of Latvian experts, theatre professionals, who select performances to be presented in Latvia and, in fact, determine the format of the festival.
During the period of Golden Mask’s existence, a whole generation of spectators have grown up, and the interaction and mutual enrichment of our cultures has taken place. We, as the permanent partner of the festival since the moment of its foundation, will only be pleased if this event gets even more friends and sponsors. This will allow Latvian spectators to see more performances and be aware of the tendencies of modern theatre, as they only can feel it during a personal encounter with this art.”
One of the chief events of the festival will be the arrival of the ballet company of Bolshoi Theatre, which has not been on tour to Latvia since 1980. On 8 and 9 October the principal music theatre of Russia will show “The Taming of the Shrew”, music by Dmitry Shostakovich, on the stage of the Latvian National Opera.
Another pleasant surprise in the programme is the legendary “Shukshin’s Stories” by the Theatre of Nations - the director’s debut in Russia of the Latvian director Alvis Hermanis. This performance, which has been a great success in many countries, will be presented on the stage of Dailes Theatre on 12 December.
Another performance that should be specially noted is the tragedy “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles, which is a cooperative project of the Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre of Russia and the National Theatre of Greece. The performance, which became the hit of the Moscow season, is included in the list of the Golden Mask nominees in the following categories: “Drama/ Best Large Scale Production”, “Drama/ Best Director” and “Drama/ Best Designer”. On 10 October it will be shown on the stage of Dailes Theatre.
In line with tradition, a number of performances of the “Golden Mask in Latvia” festival will also be shown in other big cities of Latvia – Ventspils and Liepaja.
